A Blackwater Story Documentary Showing

Join us for a compelling screening of Freeland: A Blackwater Story, the follow-up to A White Grass Story, exploring the legendary Blackwater River in West Virginia’s Monongahela National Forest and the whitewater kayaking community built around it.

Featuring firsthand stories from the pioneers of the sport, the film traces the origins of steep creeking, showcases 17 miles of world-class Class IV–V+ rapids, and reflects on the risks, losses, and evolving culture of whitewater kayaking. Rare archival footage is seamlessly blended with stunning modern visuals to preserve the history of a defining era.

Directed by West Virginia filmmaker and kayaker Justin Harris, this film serves as both a tribute and a historical archive of the river and the community that shaped the sport.
